    Magnificent tour, the cities are charming, our guide Benny was super friendly and knowledgeable about the history of each city, paying close attention to each of us. His lunch suggestions in each city were spot-on. The food was excellent, the views were beautiful, and the photos were very nice. Highly recommended, 5 stars.

The Sanctuary of Fátima is a major Catholic pilgrimage site in Portugal and one of the most significant in the world, drawing millions of visitors every year.

History

The Sanctuary of Fátima dates back to 1928, though it has undergone a phased development, with new churches, chapels and structures been added over time.

The 1917 Marian Apparitions

The complex was built after an apparition of the Virgin Mary that occurred in 1917. Three young people from the village of Aljustrel, now known as the three children of Fátima, proclaimed that they had seen Mary and that she had asked them to build a chapel in this area.
